A 25-year-old gunman was attempting to rob a couple at their home in New Orleans Wednesday night, but instead ended the night with a planned autopsy.
Keep reading until the end; there are some important points to remember.
The couple, a 28-year-old man and his 36-year-old wife were enjoying an evening on their back patio when the gunman approached them and demanded money. The man then made the couple go into their home while holding them at gunpoint. The couple’s three children, ages 6, 13 and 14, were all inside at the time.
While inside, there was a window of opportunity where the husband was able to retrieve his firearm and shoot the intruder, killing him. No one else in the home was injured.
We have been reporting on home invasions for some time now, and the rates of incidents does not seem to slow down. We are again reminded of how important it is to carry our firearms while we are in our homes. This is another example of many that, had the homeowner not been able to get a hold of their firearm, the outcome could have turned out to be much worse.
Another important point to reiterate: Having more than one firearm can be an important step to take as a firearm owner. In this case, the police needed to confiscate the homeowner’s firearm that was used in the shooting. Until it’s released, and assuming that it’s his only firearm, he is now unable to defend himself. What if the armed man who was just killed, happened to be a member of a gang? The homeowner could find himself a victim of retaliation because of this.
It wouldn’t be the first time that something of that nature happened, and it’s better to be prepared than sorry.
