EVANSVILLE, IN — A local resident from Evansville, Indiana fatally shot a man attempting to break into his house, reports The Associated Press.
It appears that the man who was shot had attempted to break into the home via a bedroom window, and he was carrying a weapon.
As The Associated Press reports:
Evansville police say officers were called to the neighborhood east of the southwestern Indiana city’s downtown about 4 a.m. Sunday, where they found a 25-year-old man wounded with a gun underneath him.
The man was taken to a hospital, where the county coroner’s office says he died of a single gunshot wound to the chest.
The homeowner told investigators the man was wearing a mask and had a gun as he crawled in through a bedroom window when the shooting happened. Police say it appears the homeowner acted within the law.”
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Malcolm Tyler Payton.
Although we are extremely grateful to hear that the only individual injured in this encounter was Payton, it could very easily have not gone that way.
The only remedy to such dangers is preparedness, preparedness, preparedness.
Having a defensive tool for the home is just as important as having one for concealed carry — it could very well be the same as you use for concealed carry, but it could just as well not be. I tend to opt for something with higher capacity.
