MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — Late Sunday night, a Memphis man walked out to his driveway to get into his car. That’s when he tells police he saw two armed criminals approaching him. In the ensuing struggle, he was shot but managed to return fire and critically strike one of the would-be robbers with his own handgun. Both fled and one of them was found in critical condition and unresponsive in a park not far from where the fight occurred.
According to News Channel 3 WREG Memphis, that suspect is still listed in critical condition. His condition has not updated since the attack. The man was not held by police and the incident has been listed as a self-defense shooting. The remaining thug fled and his identity is unknown at this time.
This is the type of situation that can happen anywhere, any time. Nobody steps foot out of his house expecting to hit a life-or-death scenario. It’s something that can happen. If this man had not been armed, he likely would have been even more seriously hurt or even killed. Armed thugs showing up with guns brandished aren’t looking to act peaceably. They want everything you’ve got and they’re not afraid to take it by any means necessary. If a gun owner is not prepared to respond with deadly force, he is putting himself, his family, and his home in jeopardy.
Thugs are getting increasingly desperate. They’re sending the old, the young, and anyone dumb enough to carry a stolen gun into the homes and driveways of any potential victim.
Our job is to not be victims. Our job is to defend ourselves. And unfortunately, more and more Americans are being called upon to do precisely that. That’s why we advocate for responsible concealed carry, with a round in the chamber, and the gun holstered every time we step out of the house. Heck, based upon the news we’ve been receiving, it would be highly suggested to carry in the home as well.
It’s your life. It’s worth it. Don’t give it up easily or freely to any deadbeat with a penchant for violence.
