According to Chicago police, a 36-year-old man retrieved a firearm from his vehicle during an argument and opened fire on a 49-year-old man. The 49-year-old, who was licensed to carry a concealed firearm, returned fire, striking the assailant in the arm.

The 36-year-old was transported to St. Bernard Hospital in critical condition, where he received medical treatment. The 49-year-old was confirmed by authorities to be a licensed concealed carry holder.

Area 1 detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
