Shooting In Chicago Leaves 1 Dead, 6 Injured As Group Gathered To Honor Someone Who Died In Car Crash 4 Years Ago

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — An incident early Sunday shook Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, resulting in a woman’s death and six others injured. The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. on Sunday at W. Iowa Street. The victims were part of a gathering commemorating a four-year-old car crash victim when shots were fired, following a heated exchange.

Among the casualties, a 25-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at Mt. Sinai Hospital. A 17-year-old girl, another 28-year-old woman, and three men aged 27, 28, and 29 were transported to different hospitals, all reported in good condition despite suffering gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, another 29-year-old man, shot in the chest and arm, is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

Detectives are currently combing the area for possible witnesses and CCTV footage to assist the ongoing investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made regarding the incident.
