Driver Who Fatally Shot Other Driver During 40-Mile-Long Altercation Is Cleared Of Charges

BUFFALO, MINNESOTA — In April 2022, a fatal shooting incident took place near Interstate 94 and Maple Grove Parkway, where a driver shot and killed another man, 61-year-old William Floyd Haire of Buffalo, Minn. The incident was the culmination of a 40-mile long altercation that started near St. Cloud.

Authorities have declared that no charges will be filed against the shooter, as he was deemed to have acted in self-defense.

Following the event, both vehicles departed the scene, and Haire was later found in his vehicle on a ramp to I-94. The shooter willingly surrendered to law enforcement and was cooperative throughout the investigation. It’s reported that he was legally carrying the firearm at the time of the incident.

The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, after thorough examination, has declined to press charges regarding this incident that took place on April 17, 2022.
