SARASOTA, FLORIDA — Sarasota police are on the lookout for a suspect in an attempted kidnapping that took place at Lido Beach, 400 Ben Franklin Drive.

The 51-year-old female victim reported parking her rental car in the lot and strolling along the beach while talking to a friend on her phone around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to WFLA.

She said a man, around 6 feet tall with an athletic build and curly hair, approached her and placed a towel over her head.

The woman managed to escape, sustaining minor injuries.

Authorities are increasing patrols in the area and have provided safety tips for those alone or in dark conditions, including letting someone know your whereabouts, carrying a cell phone, avoiding loud music or noise-canceling headphones, traveling with a companion or pet, and varying travel routes and timings.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Steven Fergus at 941-263-6059 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 941-366-TIPS.
