SUGAR LAND, TEXAS — A domestic dispute in Sugar Land, Texas, resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman following a shootout with a police officer, according to KTRK.
The deceased individuals were identified as 38-year-old Alton Sandles and 43-year-old Lantonia Faulk by Sugar Land police.
The incident began around 11 p.m. on Sunday at a residence in the Chimneystone neighborhood when Faulk called emergency services with a report that her boyfriend was assaulting her.
Upon arrival, the first responding officer witnessed Sandles shooting Faulk, authorities reported according to KTRK.
Sandles then fired at the officer, who returned fire.
Fortunately, the officer was unharmed, and it remains uncertain if Sandles was hit.
It proved to be largely irrelevant, because he retreated into the house and would never leave.
Two additional officers arrived, and Faulk was taken to an ambulance, but she did not survive the incident, according to KTRK.
Initially, it was believed that Sandles had fled the scene, prompting a neighborhood alert.
However, police saw smoke emerging from the house an hour after the shooting, and the house had caught fire.
Assistant Chief James Davis stated that it was later determined that Sandles likely remained in the house. Firefighters discovered a body, believed to be Sandles, while clearing the home.
The cause of Sandles’ death is still being investigated.
Faulk’s 15-year-old son was present during the incident but was unharmed, according to KTRK. He is now safe with his biological father, according to family members.
The couple had been together for five years and were seen enjoying themselves just hours before the 911 call, according to those same family members.
