TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA — A fatal shooting took place on Sunday at Aspen Village Apartment, leaving a man named Namarcus Giles, Jr. dead.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, revealed that officers arrived at the scene after being called for a shooting, according to Patch.

Giles had a history of being “physically abusive” towards the primary female resident, who was his former partner, Kennedy said according to Patch.

Kennedy explained that Giles had allegedly made threats to come to the apartment on Saturday, and later broke down the door and assaulted the woman.

Her brother, who was also present, armed himself and shot Giles, who did not survive.

The apartment’s residents and other witnesses cooperated with the police, and the evidence and witness accounts were consistent with the reported events.

Captain Kennedy stated that no arrest has been made as self-defense factors are being considered. Once the investigation is concluded, the case “will be presented to a grand jury for review of potential charges,” per Kennedy.
