Mother Shoots Alleged Intruder Armed With Shovel And Tire Iron

HAMMOND, LOUISIANA — A mother in Hammond, Louisiana, shot and killed an intruder armed with a shovel and a tire iron who forced his way into her home on Monday, according to reports.

The intruder, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman and her children, who were in the home at the time of the shooting, were not injured, according to WBRZ.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, the intruder forced his way inside the home and into her bedroom. The mother then shot him.

The sheriff’s office says the intruder was not known to the family and no motive has been determined yet. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact authorities. The woman has not been identified and it’s unclear if she will face any charges.

Under Louisiana’s “Castle Doctrine” law, people are allowed to use deadly force to defend their homes from an intruder.
