EASTPOINTE, MICHIGAN — Just before 10 PM on November 16th, the Eastpointe Police Department received a 911 call from a woman in the 18000 block of Holland, to report that her boyfriend was attacking her. When they arrived, police found a 34-year-old man dead in the area. According to people who knew him, the deceased man was Roderick Neely.

Police conducted an investigation and determined that the caller’s 15-year-old son shot Neely with a handgun that was registered to the caller. According to Detective Brian Showers of the Eastpointe Police Department, “We believe some element of self-defense was involved.” While both the mother and the juvenile were taken in for questioning, the mother was immediately released. The juvenile was released the following morning after a hearing.

According to police, officers had responded to five prior domestic violence calls at that address.
