Charges Dropped Against Man Related To The Murder Of Pittsburg Woman

PITTSBURG, KANSAS — Charges against Dominik Short have been dropped after his defense attorney argued he acted in self-defense.

On May 13, 2022 Police responded to a call of two women who had been victims of a shooting. On the scene they found Stephanie Marie Short, who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound and while officers attempted life saving measures, she passed away from her injuries.

Police then located Velma Marie Cubie, who was suffering from a gunshot wound but was able to be saved and survived the shooting. Shortly after, Short and James Hamilton were arrested.

Hamilton was charged with Murder in the first degree, Attempted murder in the first degree, Aggravated battery, Aggravated Assault, and Criminal Discharge of a firearm.

Short was charged with Murder in the first degree, Criminal discharge of a firearm, Aggravated battery and Aggravated Assault.

Count 4 against Hamilton, Aggravated Assault according to court documents, show that Hamilton put Short into a dangerous situation in which Hamilton presented a handgun on May 13, 2022 and acted in self
