PORT ANGELES, WASHINGTON – A man attempting to rob another was shot by the intended victim’s father during an early morning incident. According to Port Angeles police, it occurred in the 2400 block of U.S. Highway 101.
A report written by the Port Angeles Police Department indicates that the alleged robber was identified as 27-year-old Mason Archer-Barrett. He arrived at a motorhome parked along 101 and pointed a gun at his intended victim who was living in the RV. He stated that did not intend to hurt anyone, but that he did intend to collect cash that was owed as a debt from the man. The victim refused to comply with the suspect’s request for money. The victim’s father, believing that his son’s life was in danger, shot Archer-Barrett in the mouth. The wounded ran from the scene and escaped in a waiting car.
A short time later, he appeared at the Emergency Department of the Olympic Medical Center, where staff said they were told that he was brought to the hospital by a woman who found him on the side of Highway 101. He was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. According to Port Angeles Deputy Chief Jason Viada, he underwent surgery and was listed in satisfactory condition before being released a few days later. He is expected to face charges of first-degree attempted robbery.
The get-away car was driven by a woman identified as Michelle Osbourn, 37, of Port Angeles. According to information provided to police by the victim, he previously had a relationship with Osbourn. He had previously lived with her at the Emerald Inn and was helping her while she was attempting to get custody of her child from Child Protective Services. The relationship ended, and the male moved to get away from her, stating that he was afraid of her. He told officers that she had allegedly destroyed many of his personal items, including a set of $2,000 dentures.
Officers located Osbourn’s vehicle at the hotel and apprehended her as she attempted to flee, finding a small amount of methamphetamine on her person. She was also charged with first-degree robbery and booked in the Clallam County jail.
