Naked Man Shot by Resident While Attempting to Break into Home

LINCOLN COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA – It’s normally not a good idea to run around naked at 2 a.m., and it’s an even worse idea to attempt to break down someone’s front door. That became painfully obvious to a 28-year-old man when he was shot by a homeowner while doing both early Monday morning.

West Virginia State Police were called to a home on Bulger Road in Alkol, an unincorporated rural community just north of the Big Ugly Wildlife Management Area. There they found Jeffery Roberts II suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder. Roberts received his badge of dishonor from the occupant of the home that he was attempting to break into, described by police as a man in his sixties.

Neighbor Bruce Tulley, who knows both the suspect and the homeowner, was surprised to hear of the incident. “Yeah, I’m shocked. I don’t know why he would have been at his door pounding on his door at 2 a.m.,” adding, “It’s not something where it is a crime-infested area. We do not live in that. Those are things that doesn’t happen.”

Referring to the homeowner, Tulley said, “The victim, they seem to be very good people.”

Roberts was transported to a hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition. No charges have been filed against him yet, and troopers say that no charges will be filed against the homeowner who fired in self-defense.
