MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA — A suspect is in custody after a brief chase by police after they say he shot and killed four children and one adult male, and also shot and seriously injured a female. All victims were in the same home, and the suspect is said to have lived there as well.

The suspect is not cooperating with police. A motive has not yet been determined.
I wish this was one of the regular stories on our website that was instead titled; “Armed homeowner shoots and kills man during attack on family.” Sadly, it’s not.

It’s a grim reminder that we need to have a plan in place if things go sideways. Further, it’s a reminder to know the company that we keep. I am not sure if the suspect was a relative or just a friend staying at the home, but in either case, the majority of suspects like this don’t snap overnight. It’s usually a progression of acts, increase in violence or other factors that can help someone pick up on red flags of potential future deadly acts.
