CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — An off-duty police officer, who has been with the Chicago Police Department for 20 years, fatally shot his son at their home in what police are calling a ‘domestic-related’ shooting incident.

Police said he was fatally shot “by the homeowner during a physical altercation,” and was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives were investigating the shooting as “domestic related.”

Little information has been released about what led up to the shooting, or what led to the initial physical altercation.

When family members are involved in self-defense situations such as this, where there is a need to use deadly force against another family member, its always a terrible thing to report.

This father has to live with this outcome for the rest of his life, but if he hadn’t acted in the manner he did, his own life could have ended that night. That’s no easy decision to make, and we can only wish peace for the family.
