Driver Shot And Killed In Northern Philadelphia, Crashes Into Tree Near Home

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — A 38-year-old driver was shot and killed around 4:30 am on Tuesday. Details are slim, but it serves as a reminder that bad things can and do happen quickly.

The crash took place at Montour and Longshore streets in the Lawndale neighborhood around 4:30 a.m. A neighbor reported hearing what sounded like multiple gunshots from a distance followed by a loud boom near her home.

The condition of the driver wasn’t immediately available, but once police placed a tarp over the front of the vehicle, it became clear what had happened.

Medics pronounced the 38-year-old SUV driver dead at the scene, Philadelphia police said. He was shot at least once in the chest.

Police have no suspects and are still working the case.

Philadelphia has seen a 39% increase in homicides this year, with the total as of Tuesday at 425.
