Man Shoots And Kills Dog That Was Attacking His Pregnant Girlfriend As She Walked It

Published

CLEVELAND, OHIO — A woman is in the hospital after being attacked by a dog that she was walking, a complete surprise to her as she told police that the dog had never been aggressive before.

Her boyfriend witnessed the attack as he was arriving home and tried to stop it, but to no avail. He had to take things to the next level in order to stop the attack.

The man told officers that he was arriving home and witnessed his girlfriend across the street walking the dog when it turned and attacked her. He said that she kept trying to push the dog off but it continued to attack. The man said he then ran over and tried to stop the dog but couldn’t, so he ran inside to grab a firearm that belonged to his girlfriend and shot and killed the dog, according to police.

The woman was taken to the hospital and suffered lacerations and puncture wounds to both of her arms, legs and hands and another to her abdomen.

Animals can be unpredictable and violent with no history of that violent nature. The dog could have been startled by something, or maybe it was a smell that set the dog off. Or maybe it was some primal instinct that took over for those moments.

I’m not a dog expert, but I’m pretty experienced with self-defense stories. Given those facts, this was absolutely the right thing to do in this case, based on the information presented.

Using a gun to stop a threat so close to whatever you’re trying to protect is tough territory, and accuracy counts at that moment more than others. In this case especially, since the woman being attacked is pregnant. A miss could send the bullet into the pavement and in a different direction, or you could hit the victim altogether. In such a fast-paced scenario, decisions need to be made quickly and accurately.

Luckily in this case, that’s exactly what happened.
