HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS — A 53-year-old disabled woman found herself against two teens who broke into her apartment. The woman, armed with a gun, shot and killed one of the teens.

Around 2:50 p.m., Harris County deputies responded to the shooting at the Carrington Place Apartments in the 12700 block of FM 1960 West.

When they arrived at the scene, deputies found an 18-year-old male lying in the grass outside of Building No. 13. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said the 18-year-old and a 17-year-old male broke a resident’s patio door window. The 53-year-old disabled resident was home alone when the teens broke the window and reached inside and unlocked the door, according to investigators.

The woman fired a single shot, which hit one teen and sent the other running. The other didn’t get far, and was arrested close to the scene.

The 17-year-old is facing a host of charges, including felony murder due to the fact that his accomplice was killed during their crime. An 18-year-old female was also arrested in connection with the incident.

Guns have a way of allowing a more vulnerable population the ability to defend themselves against threats such as this. Had this woman not been armed and able to defend herself, there is no telling what her outcome would have been.
