CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — While the details surrounding this unfortunate incident are scarce, I’ll venture a guess that the man who died was not carrying his firearm properly.
From DNA Info;
A 33-year-old man accidentally shot and killed himself while in Englewood on Thursday night, police said.
At 11:55 p.m., the man had a gun in his waistband and was in a parked car in the 6100 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said. The man moved around the car and his gun went off, hitting the man in his abdomen.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, police said.
That’s a sad way to go, and completely preventable. The guess here is that the man was not using any holster at all and simply stuffed the firearm in his waistband. Add moving around the car to the equation and, you guessed it… disaster.
This stresses the importance of a few things:
- Using a holster
- If using a holster, using a PROPER holster
- Keeping the trigger clear
- Using your brain
- Following the 4 Rules of Gun Safety
It’s as simple as that, folks.
