SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — An armed citizen and his actions were caught on camera when he stopped man from being attacked with a knife during a confrontation. The citizen, identified only as Nick, told reporters what happened.
“I was just in my car on North Temple, I saw a guy pull a knife on another guy, a fight ensued, the guy with the knife was swinging it several times at the unarmed person.”
It was at this time that Nick, a retired police officer, made the decision to step in and draw his firearm. He held the man with the knife at gunpoint until police arrived. The majority of the incident was captured on cell phone video by a witness, and you can hear many of them asking Nick to put his gun down, although they didn’t know what was happening.

A noteworthy comment was made, and is another sad reminder of how some in society approach things like this; “Nobody called 911, nobody reported it, they are all worried about getting video so they could be famous or whatever they are,” said Nick.
After the dust settled, it turns out that the knife-wielding man was going after a person(s) that had just stolen his bike. Nick was unaware of this at the time, but still did the right thing IMO. He made the decision to get involved based on what he witnessed.
Plus, a bike can be replaced. As much as I hate thieves, sometimes it makes more sense to let them go. Going after a thief with a knife for stealing your bike isn’t much different than going after someone who just stole your vehicle.
The bike was returned, no one was injured, and everyone went home at the end of the day.
