On the afternoon of Sunday, August 4th, Albion police responded to a domestic violence call in the 200 block of S. Dalrymple Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find a woman who had sustained visible bruises and cuts on her face and body. She had fled to a nearby neighbor’s home after allegedly being tied up and beaten by her boyfriend over the course of the previous night.
The victim recounted that the violence began Saturday night when her boyfriend, in a fit of rage, started assaulting her. As the night wore on, he escalated his aggression by tying her up, ensuring she could not leave the home. The situation became dire as her injuries worsened, prompting a desperate escape on Sunday afternoon.
After breaking free from her restraints, the woman ran to a neighbor’s house seeking refuge. The neighbor, witnessing the assault and fearing for her life, quickly took action. He confronted the assailant with a firearm, ordering him to release the woman. The man, startled by the presence of the gun, let the victim go and fled the scene. The neighbor immediately brought the woman inside his home and called 911, ensuring her safety until the police arrived.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for serious injuries, including potential broken bones. Her condition underscores the severity of the assault and the potential for even greater harm had she not escaped.
Meanwhile, officers searched the suspect’s residence, discovering two children, aged 9 and 11, hiding in the basement. The children were unharmed and were later released into the care of relatives who arrived at the scene.
Despite an initial search, the suspect managed to evade capture for almost 24 hours. However, on Monday, August 5th, police received a tip that led them back to the area around the home. The suspect was apprehended without incident and taken to the Calhoun County Jail, where he awaits formal charges.
