Burglary Suspect Dies After Being Shot 5 Times By Homeowner During 3am Break-in

QULIN, MISSOURI — In a recent incident underscoring the significance of home defense, a homeowner fatally shot an intruder during an alleged burglary attempt. The event occurred in the early hours of January 13th around 3am, when law enforcement responded to a shooting report at a residence on Strawberry Lane in Qulin. The homeowner reported that an individual attempted to forcibly enter the home, prompting the homeowner to shoot the intruder five times in self-defense.

The intruder, identified as 37-year-old Darren Venneman from Chanute, Kansas, was critically injured and subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Memphis. Venneman succumbed to his injuries on January 16th. The homeowner, however, faces no charges as the shooting was deemed a justifiable act of self-defense.
