PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLORIDA — A 35-year-old man, Jeffery Boyd, shot and wounded 28-year-old Darryl Gary-Paul McLinton outside a bar. Police say that Boyd was in fear for his life during the incident and fired in self-defense. The altercation occurred at Palm Beach Commons plaza early Sunday morning.
McLinton, who displayed aggressive behavior and claimed gang affiliation, approached Boyd’s Tesla Model 3 in the parking lot, leading to the confrontation. Despite attempts by security to deescalate, McLinton continued his aggressive stance towards Boyd, who was in his vehicle. When McLinton appeared to reach for something in his waistband, Boyd, fearing an imminent threat, shot him with his 9mm handgun.
McLinton, who sustained an abdominal wound, was arrested and charged with robbery, simple assault, and criminal mischief. He was treated at a hospital and later jailed, ordered to avoid contact with Boyd. Witnesses stated McLinton also damaged the vehicle. The next court appearance for McLinton is scheduled for Jan. 23.
