Homeowner Fatally Shoots One Intruder and Police Seeking Second Suspect

WESLACO, TEXAS — The interaction of two law enforcement agencies was necessary to respond to a call for help at a crime scene and locate one of the the suspects who fled the scene after being shot by the homeowner.

The Hildago County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a reported burglary of habitation with intent to commit a felony around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Upon arrival at the home, located on Mile 6½ West Road just north of Mile 9 North Road in rural Weslaco, deputies spoke with the homeowner.

A press release from the HCSD reads, “Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies met with the victim who stated two armed men wearing black masks entered his residence without permission. The victim discharged his firearm and believed he’d struck one of the suspects. Both suspects quickly fled the location in a red passenger car.”

A short time later, Weslaco Police Department officers located the red car and the wounded suspect at Knapp Medical Center.  The suspect, identified as Adan Izaguirre, 33, later died of the gunshot wound. The second suspect remains at large.

The homeowner is not expected to face any charges, as Texas law allows homeowners to use deadly force to defend themselves and their homes from anyone who is present in the home without the owners permission or causes the occupants to believe that the uninvited guests may be intent on committing a crime or harming the occupants.
