Man Shot By Armed Citizen After Trying To Run Over Three People

A Columbus man was arrested after allegedly trying to run over three people with his vehicle following an argument. The altercation ended when one of the individuals shot the driver in self-defense, and he was subsequently charged with felonious assault.

COLUMBUS, OH (2-minute read) — A Columbus man has been charged with three counts of felonious assault after allegedly attempting to run over three individuals during a confrontation on the city’s East Side. The incident occurred early Saturday morning at a home on Noe Bixby Road around 2 a.m., according to a report from the Columbus Police.

The suspect, 32-year-old Alexander Oglesby from the Northeast Side of Columbus, reportedly drove his car onto the front lawn of the residence during an argument, intending to strike three people with his vehicle. The situation escalated quickly, leading one of the three individuals to defend themselves by firing a shot at Oglesby, striking him.

Police stated that the shooting was in self-defense. Oglesby was treated at a local hospital for his injuries before being transported to the Franklin County Jail. He now faces three charges of felonious assault in connection with the incident.

Vehicular assaults like this are often categorized as serious crimes because vehicles can cause severe harm when used as weapons. In Ohio, felonious assault charges are a second-degree felony and can result in significant prison time if the accused is convicted.

Safety Tip: When involved in an escalating situation, it’s critical to practice de-escalation tactics and avoid confrontations when possible. However, always be aware of your legal rights and responsibilities when using a firearm for self-defense.
