Man Shoots 2, Killing 1, During Attempted Robbery At Marijuana Sale Meet-Up

AKRON, OHIO — An attempted robbery and subsequent shootout resulted in one fatality and another individual injured, as reported by local police. The incident, which unfolded around 3 p.m. on Thursday in the 2100 block of 19th Street S.W., began when Jeffery Ratliff, 30, was confronted by two men, ages 19 and 22, attempting to rob him during a marijuana sale.

In defense, Ratliff fired his weapon, striking both assailants. The younger suspect, identified as Javeone Aamir Suggs, succumbed to his injuries on the scene, while the older, Jovante Dowdell, escaped with a leg injury. Dowdell, who later sought medical attention for a graze wound, has been charged with murder and aggravated robbery and is currently held at Summit County Jail.

Ratliff faces charges related to marijuana trafficking.
