Teen Faces Murder Charge After Friend Shot In The By Concealed Carrier During Attempted Robbery

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI — A 17-year-old named Jonathan M. Jones faces murder and other charges following a failed robbery attempt. On September 27, 2023, in Dutchtown’s 2600 block of Osage Street, Jones and three other teenagers allegedly tried to rob a man in his 30s.

The situation escalated into an exchange of gunfire, resulting in the death of one of the teens, Jerimiah Grayer, and injuries to the intended victim. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department apprehended the surviving teens, with Jones being tried as an adult.

He is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action, and is being held without bond.

The legal processing of the other involved teens, whether as adults or through juvenile court, remains undecided.

The condition of the armed citizen wasn’t immediately available, but police said he suffered an unspecified gunshot wound and needed treatment at the hospital.
