MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE — A home invasion at Cedarwoods Apartments early Wednesday morning resulted in a defensive shooting by a resident. Memphis Police Department reported that two intruders were shot during the incident; one succumbed to injuries, while the other remains in critical condition. The apartment renter, awakened by the break-in, fired at the suspects in response.

Nearby residents told local media they hearing around fifteen gunshots and a verbal confrontation. They recalled hearing the tenant exclaiming about shooting an intruder and another person calling for help. Memphis Police, arriving at the scene around 3 a.m., began investigating the case.

The decision on whether to charge the tenant will be made by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, as stated by MPD spokesman Chris Williams, although it’s likely that no charges will be filed.
