After fleeing the scene, the suspect was later stopped by police in Gresham while driving a vehicle, and during the encounter, the suspect was shot and killed by officers. Thankfully, no officers were injured in the confrontation.

The Good Samaritan Family Birth Center will remain closed until further notice, as stated by Legacy Health. The injured hospital employee, hit by shrapnel, received treatment and was released on the same day.

The incident began around 10:57 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a person carrying a firearm inside the medical center. Upon arrival, they discovered shots had been fired and immediately initiated a search for the suspect, leading to a lockdown of the medical center. At approximately 11:20 a.m., they learned that a security officer had been shot on the 5th floor near the birthing center. The suspect fled, prompting a citywide response from various police teams in an attempt to locate the individual.

After a standoff later in the day, the suspect was found outside a U.S. Bank parking lot in Gresham and was killed by police. The injured security officer, identified as Bobby Smallwood, was transferred to a trauma center but succumbed to his injuries.

Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center stopped admitting new patients during the investigation but resumed normal operations that evening. The suspect’s identity and the circumstances leading to the shooting have not been disclosed by the police.
