JOHNSTON COUNTY, NORTH On Father’s Day in Wilson’s Mills, a father allegedly shot and killed a man who was reported to have tried to accost his daughter.

The incident occurred within the city limits and local police, supported by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene on Parker Street following reports of an attempted break-in and shooting.

The initial investigation revealed that the 23-year-old suspect entered the backyard where children were playing, and tried to accost an 11-year-old girl. On being alerted by the children, the father shot the intruder, who at that point was attempting to get into the home. He later died from his injuries.

The identity of the suspect is yet to be disclosed.

The Chief of Wilson’s Mills Police, A.Z. Williams, indicated this may be an instance of a father defending his family, noting that the family did not know the suspect. The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a detailed investigation of the incident, in collaboration with the local District Attorney’s Office.
