RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA — A resident fatally shot one of three suspects who was reportedly trying to break into a Riverside apartment around 1:40 a.m on August 24, 2022.
The man who was fatally shot was later identified as 20-year-old Denzeal Young.
The resident called police to alert them that there was a burglary in progress. After the phone call with the police, the resident called back to tell them that gunshots had been exchanged.
There were three individuals responsible for the burglary, according to police. Two had run away, and the other was in a vehicle that had crashed into other vehicles, suffering from a gunshot wound. That suspect later died at the hospital.
The armed resident was also injured, being shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The authorities do not know however if the victim of the burglary was targeted or if it was random.
