BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA – A man allegedly shot at a home invader who was breaking into his home in the early morning hours of September 1st. The two men at the center of the incident claimed to know one another.

According to law enforcement, a man called 911 to report a burglary into his home while he was sleeping. The man said that a home invader was attempting to break in through a bedroom window, that they eventually found broken, and was trying to get inside.

The resident shot and the suspect then fled the scene.

Upon arrival, law enforcement did find numerous bullet holes in and around the window that was broken.

After approximately 10 minutes, law enforcement received another 911 call from a man who claimed to have been shot at a nearby park. Investigators determined that the likely scenario was that the home invader drove himself to the nearby park and then called emergency services.

The suspected home invader was eventually transferred to a hospital in Indianapolis to treat his gunshot wounds.

No charges have yet been filed.

Securing your home is one of the most vital steps to ensuring your safety and the safety of your loved ones. When at home, go through drills with your unloaded weapons practicing scenarios based on the configuration of your home. If your bedroom window is facing your street, practice drawing your unloaded weapon in the direction of the location of a possible break-in. Having gone through dry-runs will help prevent your brain from freezing up in a potential moment of life-and-death.
