Pennsylvania House Passes Constitutional Carry, Now Awaiting Veto From Governor

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed House Bill 565 by a 107-92 vote, which would allow the carrying of a concealed firearm without a permit. It will now head to Governor Wolf’s desk where he has vowed to veto it immediately.

“The legislation to assert Pennsylvanian’s constitutional right to carry firearms without a permit protects the Second Amendment and Article 1, sec. 21 state constitutional rights of legal gun owners. The bill changes nothing regarding who can legally own a gun and takes nothing away from law enforcement from going after those owning and using guns illegally,” House Majority Leader Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre, Mifflin) said.

Just like most states, representatives in the highly populated areas are opposed to the bill, and believe it to be a waste of time because everyone knows it’ll be vetoed in the end.

But, for us and gun owners everywhere, that’s not the point. The point is that a majority vote pushed the legislation far enough to get to the Governor’s desk, which will get the topic of lesser gun restrictions in that state.

What these Democrats in the cities fail to realize, while citing their opposition to the bill in relation to high rates of gun crimes in their districts, is that permitless carry does not make it legal for anyone and everyone to carry a firearm. Those people still banned from possessing and owning guns, such as convicted felons, won’t magically be able to carry a firearm if the bill were passed.

And if they are already carrying guns and shooting up the city, they’re already breaking the law.
