Domestic Violence Shatters The Innocence Of A Sunday Morning Soccer Tournament

Published

HARRIS COUNTY, TEXAS – A northwest Harris County soccer field complex became the scene of a double murder Sunday morning when a pregnant woman and a man were killed. The tragedy played out around 10 a.m. at the Matias Almeyda Training Center in the 4200 block of Clow Road near Steubner Airline Road.

Deputies arrived at a scene they described as “chaotic”, as there were around 100 people attending a tournament at the complex when the shooting occurred. Investigators have determined that an armed man showed up at the facility and opened fire on the pregnant woman and her boyfriend.

The 35-year-old male victim died at the scene. The 28-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital where she and her unborn child succumbed to the injuries. According to deputies, two children were with the woman, but were not physically harmed.

The suspect fled the scene. Around two hours later, investigators were notified by family members of the woman that they received a text message from the suspect, who has been identified as the woman’s ex-husband. The text indicated that he was going to commit suicide.

Deputies found his body in a home in the 700 block of Bayou Forest, 10 miles from the soccer park. He was dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and a pistol was found near his body.

“Deputies interviewed family members, we identified the suspect as an ex-husband or boyfriend of the female victim,” Sgt. Ben Beall with the HCSO Homicide Division said. Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved.  This is a developing story, and the investigation is still active.
