Man Who Attacked His Parents With Knife Is Fatally Shot By Elderly Neighbor

APPLE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA — A violent knife attack by a man against his parents left his mother dead and father critically injured before he was shot dead by an 84-year-old neighbor of the parents. Deputies with San Bernardino County responded to reports of a stabbing and shooting in the 16200 block of Pauhaska Street on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, they located a deceased male and deceased female near the front of a home, and another male laying in the street suffering from apparent knife wounds. The investigation revealed that the suspect, Jeremy Koger, was at the home of his father, Jerry Koger, 58, and stepmother, Lorain Corral, 55 when for reasons still unknown, he attacked both with a knife.

According to a SBSO statement, “both victims ran outside and sought help from neighbors, and Jeremy left the location. While neighbors called 911 and assisted Jerry and Lorain, Jeremy returned and began attacking Lorain again with a knife.”

A neighbor, identified only as an 84-year-old man, went into his home, and armed himself with a gun.  Despite his orders to stop, Jeremy continued to stab his stepmother. The neighbor then fatally shot Jeremy, stopping the attack. The neighbor was not injured but was understandably shaken by the incident.

Both Lorain and Jeremy were pronounced dead at the scene. Jerry was airlifted to the hospital and remains hospitalized. The investigation is ongoing, but the motive behind the violence may never be known.
