CLEAR BROOK, VA — A home invasion was stopped just as soon as it started when the would-be burglar accidentally picked the wrong armed resident.
The woman found the house of an armed man unafraid to defend his home.
As The Winchester Star reports:
The shooting occurred in the 200 block of Ruebuck Lane in Clear Brook in northeastern Frederick County, Capt. Aleck Beeman of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release issued this afternoon. The woman has not been positively identified, according to the news release. Her body is scheduled for an autopsy Monday at the state medical examiner’s office.
Deputies responded to the home about 9:50 p.m. after the homeowner called 911 to report the shooting.
“The owner of the residence reported that one or two subjects were trying to break into his residence through his bedroom window,” the release states. “The suspect broke out the bedroom window and reached inside of the window. The homeowner reported that he fired one round from his 12-gauge shotgun through the window when he saw the suspect’s hands come through the window.”
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found the woman’s body outside of the residence by the bedroom window. The homeowner was in bed when he heard someone trying to break into his house, Beeman said.
Beeman said the Sheriff’s Office is trying to determine if more than one person was involved in the attempted break-in. He said residents in the area “don’t need to be concerned,” but he declined to elaborate.
Yeah, if there were any areas in these United States of A to specifically avoid committing crimes in, heartland Virginia is right by Texas. They’re not to be trifled with.
Of course it’s sad that a life was lost here, but hats off to this armed homeowner for staying safe when things hit the fan. When push comes to shove, the armed and law-abiding should always prevail.
