MCMINNVILLE, OREGON — A man’s attempt to hijack a car in a Walmart parking lot was thwarted when the intended victim, fearing for his life, drew a handgun and forced the assailant to flee. The incident occurred on December 19th when the man was approached by the would-be carjacker armed with a large knife, demanding the car keys. Law enforcement promptly responded, embarking on a search that led them to a piece of luggage abandoned by the assailant, which contained identifying information.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Aaron J. Quiocho of Beaverton, was located near a restaurant and arrested without resistance.
Quiocho, during the police interview, confessed to the attempted carjacking. The investigation included reviewing surveillance footage and recovering a piece of clothing discarded by Quiocho and the knife involved in the attempt. The accused told the police he intended to use the stolen vehicle to return to a family member’s home in Beaverton, who had recently sent him away.
He now faces multiple charges, including Robbery in the First Degree, Menacing, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
