Why We Carry: Man With Knife Runs Around Playground Stabbing Children

FRENCH ALPS — A horrifying incident occurred at a lakeside park in Annecy, French Alps, where a man armed with a knife attacked and severely injured four young children, all between 22 months and 3 years old, and two adults.

The suspect, a 31-year-old Syrian with refugee status in Sweden, was taken into custody shortly after. The chilling scene was captured in a video posted on social media, which shows the assailant wielding a knife and assaulting the victims, one in a stroller, despite desperate cries for help.

The attack was not believed to be terrorism-related.

The children, two French and two tourists from the UK and the Netherlands, along with the two adults, are in critical condition. French President Emmanuel Macron described the assault as an “attack of absolute cowardice” and stated the nation is in shock.

“I said to the police, ‘Shoot him, kill him! He’s stabbing everyone,’” Anthony Le Tallec, a former professional soccer player who was in the area, told reporters.

Incidents like these highlight the crucial importance of being able to defend oneself. Self-defense skills can increase the chances of survival in dangerous situations, or possibly even deter potential attackers.

Furthermore, being trained in self-defense not only provides physical protection but also fosters a sense of self-confidence and awareness of surroundings, which is beneficial in everyday life. It is a valuable, if not essential, skill that can enhance personal security and peace of mind in a world that can sometimes be unpredictable and dangerous.
