DUNN, NORTH CAROLINA — Around 5:45am on Tuesday, Malihk Giles allegedly broke into a home and attempted to steal a dog. He was then shot after failing to leave the apartment.
Police spoke with a 29-year-old woman, who stated she was woken up by a loud banging. She observed a suspect, later to be determined by the police to be Giles, who had broken in through her front door and was attempting to take her dog.
The woman confronted Giles and told him to leave, but he ignored her and then proceeded to stare at her. At this point due to Giles actions, she shot him. Giles retreated from the home and when police responded, found him by his car around 200 yards from the break-in.
Giles was taken into custody and treated for his injuries to his lower right leg at a local hospital. Giles was charged with First degree burglary and possession of stolen property.
