WESTERN NEW YORK — A 67-year-old man, who was a Range Safety Officer and long-time member of the Penfield Gun Club, was shot and killed by a negligent discharge that came from the gun of a competitor during a shooting competition.
The man was shot at an indoor range and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Media called the incident an ‘accidental discharge’, as well as the range, but we know better. The only time that someone is shot when it’s not intended is a result of negligence.
A statement was released by the Genesee Conservation League, and can be viewed below.

It’s a sad thing to hear, and I’m certain that the person responsible feels terrible, and will have to unfortunately live with this for the rest of their life.
It’s a good time to remind everyone of The 4 Rules of Firearm Safety, and make sure you know them well.
