4-Year-Old Finds Gun In Grandma’s Purse And Shoots Her With It Inside Store

MOBILE, ALABAMA — A 55-year-old woman was accidentally shot in the leg by her 4-year-old granddaughter in a thrift store in Mobile on Tuesday evening. The young girl found a gun in her grandmother’s purse while playing and discharged it, leading to the incident.

The victim, alert and conscious, was immediately rushed to the hospital, although the severity of her injuries remains unknown. Following the gunshot, the store was evacuated and remained closed for the rest of the day.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing the victim scream and were told by the store management that the shooting was unintentional.

The thrift store is expected to reopen the following day.

On-body carry is always the preferred method of carrying your firearm, but if off-body is necessary, such as purse carry, it has to be out of reach of those who should not have access to it. That means keeping the purse on you, within reach, and away from children or others who may gain access to it.
