Store Owner Shot In Back, Returns Fire With Multiple Firearms

HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT — A store owner in East Hartford shot and killed a suspect who attempted to rob his business, according to police.

Police said that two individuals wearing black ski masks entered the Humble & Paid Co. store at 1285 Main St. with the intention to rob it, according to NBC Connecticut.

During the incident, one of the suspects reportedly shot the store owner in the back, but the owner fought back and shot the suspect several times with his legally registered firearms.

Police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Jashar Haslam of Hartford, who was treated at the scene but was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The store owner was also treated for a gunshot wound to his lower back and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other suspect escaped and remained at large at the time of NBC’s report.
