Kentucky Break-In Prevented By Armed Homeowner

LOGAN COUNTY, KENTUCKY – Law enforcement in rural Kentucky responded to a shooting around 9:30 a.m. on August 1st at a home allegedly stemming from an attempted break-in. The homeowners have cooperated with law enforcement and criminal charges are pending for the suspected burglar.

The incident began when the homeowners were asleep in the upstairs bedroom when they heard a loud noise downstairs around 1:00 a.m. The boyfriend went downstairs and found someone attempting to break into the home. The homeowner fired one shot in the direction of the alleged intruder.

The suspect, according to officials, fled the scene and checked himself in to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen around an hour later. The suspect was later transferred to a trauma center in Nashville, TN.

It has not yet been determined what took place between 2:30 a.m., when the suspect checked in to the hospital, and when the homeowners finally called the police around 9:30 a.m. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky was investigating the shooting.

Concealed Nation continually reminds readers to remain armed and vigilant, and occurrences like these are prime examples of why you’re also encouraged to harden your home and make it less likely for a break-in. Add things like outdoor flood lights, security systems, or even fake security signs to act simply as a deterrent from potential burglars.

Additionally, if you’re involved in a self-defensive shooting, call the police immediately and do not wait until hours later to make that call.

Fortunately for this couple, the boyfriend was prepared to step into action and protect his loved ones from possible disaster.
