Or so it would seem.
The man responsible for the deaths of 17 people at a High School in Florida, and the wounding of 17 others, pleaded guilty to all charges this week. He also made a statement to the court and the families of the victims, and in part, apparently blaming marijuana for his shooting rampage.
“I hate drugs, and I believe this Country would do better if everyone would stop smoking marijuana and doing all these drugs, and causing racism and violence out in the streets.”
While he apologized to the families for what he did, the sincerity of which you can judge, he makes no mention of mental health issues being a cause for his actions or the actions of other killers like him. Maybe he isn’t aware, as I’m not a psychologist, but seemingly throwing the blame on a drug that is used by millions and has become legal in some states, is in no way taking any personal responsibility for what happened.
Remember that this is the same guy who tried fooling police during their interrogation of him directly after the shooting, an interrogation that threw up many red flags about his actual mental state. There is a video out there, of which I cannot currently find, that analyses his behavior during the interrogation and points to many interesting moments where it would seem that he was simply acting.
Whatever the case, this killer did not actually place blame on himself, rather forcing the blame onto something else to make him look a little less evil.
