PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA — A lone gunman stormed into a Synagogue during Saturday service and opened fire, killing at least 11 and wounding 6. Of the 6 wounded, 4 were police officers responding to the scene.
The suspect, who was identified by media outlets, is said to be a 46-year-old man from the Pittsburgh area.
He was taken into custody, although it is unclear whether or not he was injured.
Witnesses say that the man was yelling “All Jews Must Die” during the rampage. The incident is being classified as a hate crime.
The Synagogue usually has a police presence only during high holidays.
An online post, supposedly from the gunman, “said the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society ‘likes to bring invaders in that kill our people. I can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.’”
