Rick Perry Loses His Texas Concealed Carry Permit, Raises Money With His Mugshot

Governor Rick Perry has lost his ability to legally carry a firearm following an indictment the other week on charges of coercion of a public servant and abuse of power, which carries a maximum sentence of 109 years in prison.

Although legal experts expect him to beat all of the charges, state (and federal law) require the suspension of a carry permit if you are charged with certain crimes. If he is found not guilty, the suspension will be lifted and Perry will again be allowed to carry a firearm. If he is found guilty though, he will lose his right to carry forever. Once you receive a felony conviction, it remains on your record unless it is expunged or you are pardoned.

Perry is also ineligible to purchase firearms or ammunition, and will be able to again only if found not guilty. If a background check were to be run, it would likely come back as denied.

Perry can however, keep any firearms and ammunition that he currently owns. It is also important to note that if someone were to buy or give firearms or even ammunition to him, they would be committing a felony under federal law.

On a different note, Perry is now selling t-shirts that display his mugshot on the front and the mugshot of Rosemary Lehmberg on the back. Lehmberg is the DA at the center of Perry’s indictment.

The front of the shirt shows a ‘WANTED’ sign above Perry’s head with the words “for securing the border and defeating Democrats”. While on the back, Lehmberg’s mugshot displays “GUILTY” above her head with the accompanying text “driving while intoxicated and perversion of Justice”.

Time will tell as to what the outcome will be. What are your thoughts not on the indictment, but on his inability to purchase new firearms or ammo, and not being able to carry during these proceedings?
