Funeral Home Owner Shoots 2, Killing 1, During Funeral for 10-Year-Old Girl

WASHINGTON, DC — An incident at Washington National Cemetery led to a man’s death and a woman’s injury after a shooting during a 10-year-old girl’s funeral service on Tuesday afternoon.

The affected individuals were said to be “not directly associated” with the service for Arianna Davis, a young girl who tragically lost her life to an errant bullet on Mother’s Day, according to officials.

“We believe that this was a dispute totally unrelated to what was going on with the funeral,” commented Police Major David Blazer from the Prince George’s County Police Department.

The woman involved in the incident is receiving treatment for injuries not deemed life-threatening by the Prince George’s County Police Department. They have also confirmed a suspect is in their custody.

Wilson Wesley Chavis, the 48-year-old owner of Compassion and Serenity Funeral Home, was arrested for the shootings.

An emergency call was made at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, notifying authorities of the shooting at 4401 Suitland Rd., Hillcrest Heights, MD.

The incident follows closely on the heels of a previous incident, where several individuals were injured in a shooting at a murder victim’s funeral in Northeast D.C., which happened less than two months ago.
