ZEPHYRHILLS, FLORIDA — This isn’t quite the story of Helen of Troy, but someone did end up dying over the affection of a woman. The altercation went too far when one man took out his knife and slashed the other. That’s when things got deadly.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a man that apparently resulted from an argument with another man over a woman, deputies said.

The shooting happened in a home on the 38000 block of Ruth Avenue, near U.S. 301 north of the city, deputies said. The Sheriff’s Office got the call about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies said the 38-year-old man who was killed cut the other man with a knife before being shot. Neither of the men has been identified, and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
It is hard to blame the shooter, and I think it’s safe to say that most people in the situation would have done the same thing. Arguing and chest thumping over a woman is one thing, but when a blade comes out to start slashing, the shooter was left with little choice.
Fortunately, the shooter did not brandish or engage his weapon first, and only used it for self defense. Currently no charges have been filed as the police are investigating this as self defense. The investigation is ongoing, however, and if facts from the story change so could the decision not to press charges.
