The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Darien Louis Bragg of Pontiac. Bragg sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest, which ultimately proved fatal. The same bullet struck his 23-year-old girlfriend in the abdomen, leaving her in serious condition. As of Wednesday morning, she remains hospitalized.
The alleged shooter, a 21-year-old man from Pontiac, is reportedly the former boyfriend of the injured woman. He was detained at the scene by responding deputies. Witnesses described the chaotic moments leading up to the shooting, stating that Bragg and his girlfriend attacked the man at the counter from behind. In the ensuing struggle, all three individuals fell to the ground, with Bragg and his girlfriend on top of the 21-year-old, striking him.
In an apparent act of self-defense, the 21-year-old man drew a handgun and fired a single shot. After the shooting, he attempted to pay for his items and calmly waited for the authorities to arrive.
